When it comes to packing shoes on a travel adventure, it can be a little bit tricky to know how many you’re supposed to take with you. Should you take a pair of sneakers and a pair of hiking shoes? How about casual footwear? What about nighttime slippers? And flip-flops? If you’re a woman, that problem gets even more tricky because now you’re wondering about high heels and other fancy shoes as well. If you’re trying to figure out the answers to these questions, here’s your official guide to packing shoes.

Hot Weather Travel

When traveling to a place that’s hot, flip-flops or sandals are a must. Make sure you take some casual shoes as well, and ideally make them fancy enough to go out in. If you’re going to go somewhere really fancy, you might as well take some dress shoes also. If you’re looking to go on any big hikes, we’d recommend a good pair of walking or hiking shoes.

Cold Weather Travel

Many of the rules we just said apply as well to the cold weather layout. Going to a fancy event? Bring fancy shoes. Going on a lot of hikes? Bring hiking boots. In cold weather, you may want to make those hiking boots a bit more rugged in case of rain. The same goes for your casual shoes. You may want to take slippers for regular lounging around a hotel, and flip-flops may not be necessary.
