Are you looking to soak up the rays of the sun during the cold winter months in the Northern Hemisphere? Uruguay, a calm and idyllic South American country with an Atlantic Coast full of beautiful beaches, is a great option for those looking to escape the cold.

If you decide on a beach trip to Uruguay in the near future, here are three beaches that you absolutely must check out.

Playa Brava, Punta del Este

Punta del Este is Uruguay’s most famous beach destination, and my favorite beach to visit in Punta del Este is Playa Brava. A huge stretch of sand that’s calm and popular with surfers due to its occasionally strong waves, you can get the best of both worlds in Punta del Este at this beach.

Playa Neptunia, Costa del Oro

The sea is calm and the beach is full of soft sand at Playa Neptunia, a beautiful spot located at the discharge of Pando Creek into the Atlantic Ocean. Crowds are small here, meaning that it is one of Uruguay’s best beaches to simply relax at.

Playa del Rivero, Punta del Diablo

Just a few miles from the Brazilian border is Playa del Rivero, one of southeast Uruguay’s most popular beach destinations. Frequented by both Uruguayans and Brazilians, you’ll find a friendly company and a scenic setting at this pretty beach.
