Bangkok is home to many wonderful temples with unique stories and amazing architecture, so it’s not easy to choose the top three or five. However, if you end up rushing to see as many of them as possible, you’ll miss out on enjoying the unique beauty of each. It’s better to choose just a few and give them all your time and attention. Here are some of our picks.

Wat Phra Kaew

To start with the most famous one, Wat Phra Kaew is a temple with the most tourists every year. That’s because this temple is home to the Emerald Buddha, a 15th-century jade statue believed to be the protector of Thailand. The King of Thailand changes the statue’s clothes three times per year in a ceremony.

The visitors are required to dress appropriately, which means no shorts, sleeveless tops, or stretch pants, among other things.

Wat Arun

Wat Arun, or the Temple of Dawn, is one of the most appreciated temples in Bangkok. 10-baht coins are decorated with its images. The temple has recently been returned to its original glory as the restoration work finished in 2017, after many years of work.

Wat Pho

Wat Pho temple is also known as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha and it’s considered to be the world’s center for studying traditional medicine and Thai massage.

Wat Saket

Home to Phu Khao Thong, Wat Saket sits on a man-made hill and has a golden Chedi on top that’s believed to contain a relic from Buddha. If you want to get on top of it, you have to climb 344 stairs. This temple is typically less crowded than the previous ones on our list.
