Deep-dish pizza, Cloud Gate, and the Cubs are usually the first things people think of when someone mentions Chicago, but were you aware this city is home to some of the most magnificent fountains you’ll ever get to see?

Buckingham Fountain

Located in the very heart of Grant Park, this is one of the largest fountains in the world, not just Chicago. Its shape represents Lake Michigan, with four sets of sea horses symbolizing each state that borders the lake.

Fountain of the Great Lakes

Speaking of lakes, this fountain at the Art Institute of Chicago depicts five women that hold containers arranged with flowing water, who represent the water flow of the five great lakes in North America.

Crown Fountain

This fountain in Chicago’s Millennium Park is also an interactive work of art, which projects video images of Chicago citizens. The water is flowing from their mouths, as an homage to gargoyles and other mythological beings that were used in the same way in classic fountains.

Centennial Fountain

Centennial Fountain is located on the north bank of the Chicago River, and it’s best known for shooting a large eighty-foot water arc across the river once per hour.
