Most people visit Quito because they want to explore the natural wonders of the surrounding area, but the capital of Ecuador is also a paradise for architecture lovers. Here’s a couple of beautiful churches you should check out in this city.

Basilica of the National Vow

The largest neo-Gothic church in South America is located in the very heart of Quito. Its construction started all the way back in 1882, but it took over a century for the basilica to be inaugurated, and it’s never been officially completed. If you ever get to visit it, make sure to ascend to the top of the towers and get amazing views of the city.

The Church of the Society of Jesus

This Jesuit church is one of Quito’s best-known establishments of its kind and the best examples of Spanish Baroque architecture in South America. It’s popular with architecture lovers thanks to its intricately decorated central nave.

The Church and Convent of St. Francis

This church, located at the Plaza de San Francisco, has been around since the 16th century. It consists of 13 cloisters, three churches, and a large courtyard, making it one of the largest historical structures of Latin America.
