Crescent City Farmer’s Market

New Orleans is known for upbeat jazz, Bourbon Street, and Mardi Gras, but it’s also a culinary haven. Green City Market

Chicago is one of the prides of the Midwest, and if you’re ever there once the snow melts, you will be amazed by how the city blooms.

Every year between May and October, the Green City Market thrives off of locally sourced produce and plants, but also has a variety of interesting locally made whiskeys and other products. The market also happens during the winter but it’s held inside since Chicago can be terribly cold.

Santa Fe’s Farmers’ Market

If you want to see one of the largest farmers’ markets in the country in action, you have to go to Santa Fe.

This southwestern city is booming with life and culture, and in the farmers’ market you can really find some gems. Whether you’re into cactus honey, local chili peppers, or delicious corn, you can’t afford to miss out.

#KnowYourFarmer #KnowYourFood Your Name: Jesus Guzman Farm Name: Jesus Guzman Produce Farm Location: Nambe What is a signature item that you sell? Chile, beans, and chicos What’s the best way to store it / how long will it keep? Chicos need to be kept in the refrigerator or freezer. How long have you been farming? All my life. I have good memories from when the Market was at Sanbusco. The location and the neighbors were great. There was lots of room. Here it can be a bit crowded. But the Market has been good to me, at any location. It’s mainly about the interactions with people. How did you get into farming? My dad introduced me to it when I was 7 years old. When I got here from Guanajuato Mexico I started working with Truman Bingham in Santa Cruz. The Market was on Alto Street back then. I asked him for a raise, but he couldn’t do it. Instead, he sent me to work the Tuesday Market for him. By the next year, I was farming on my own. How would you describe yourself in one word or phrase? His wife, Kate, said “He is honest, down to earth, funny as all get out, and really cute!” How did you and your wife meet? We met 8 years ago when I went to trim trees on her property. What is your favorite dish to make? A wide range of Mexican food. Beans are the easiest. And I love to grill. Red or Green? Whatever is hotter If you were a super hero what would your powers be and why? I’d like to have the ability to make everyone be nice. Equality is what I fight for. What is the strangest thing you've eaten? Jackfruit What have you done that you are most proud of? In 2008, when the market crashed, I lot of people were struggling. I’d come across people stranded on the road with no gas. I gave away a lot of the gas I had for the farm. I helped a lot of people. It feels good to help pick someone up who is struggling. #santafefarmersmarket
