Hong Kong is an incredible city, bursting with a unique combination of the East and West. Any reasonable travel guide will tell you to take the peak tram up the mountain to get a good view of Hong Kong or to check out the marvelous HK Disneyland. If you fancy something a little less touristy, however, here are five alternative things you can do during your visit.

Go out in Soho

Ok, this might be a little obvious, but it really has to be done. Take the metro down to Central, stay out late and bar hop the night away. You’ll find all sorts of quirky bars, including ‘Iron Faries’ which has a mysterious vibe and live music on the weekends. You’ll also catch lots of young people drinking outside 7-11 and it’s not a bad place to meet new friends.

Take a ferry from Central

To get an incredible view of Hong Kong, take a ferry at night from Central. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the city will truly take your breath away.

Accidental Art walking tour

Accidental Art offer walking tours in Central and they will show you some of the best street art Hong Kong has to offer. They’ll tell you the stories behind some of Central’s most famous graffiti and take you into some of the hippest galleries in the area. If you’re lucky, you might even get to meet one of the artists.

Cross the Longevity Bridge

Avoid the tourists by coming early to Kwun Yam Shrine. It is a beautiful temple and features the Longevity Bridge. Legend has it that your life will be prolonged for three more days each time you cross it.

Mong Kok Market

If you want to experience the buzzing feel of a Chinese market, head down to Mong Kok. The street market is open until late and you can find just about anything there.
