Part of the joy of traveling is finding new and exciting ways to experience the world. One of the best ways to do this is to engage in unusual modes of transport – whether you’re riding a donkey along a narrow mountain pass, floating in a hot air balloon above a stunning landscape, or navigating a river by canoe, it is these things which will form wonderful memories of your adventures away. If you need some inspiration, check out these three modes of travel you have to try.

Kayaking, New Zealand

In a country formed of two islands, it’s no wonder that traveling by boat has become incredibly popular. Not only is kayaking convenient, depending on your whereabouts in New Zealand you are, but it’s also a wonderful way to experience the truly awe-inspiring landscapes and perhaps even interact with some of the rare and precious wildlife including whales, dolphins, and seals.

Horse and Donkey Rides, Rhodes

Many of the Greek islands shun cars in favor of more traditional modes of transport, including going by horse or donkey. The beautiful island of Rhodes is a great place to experience this, and you can also watch many of the working animals still performing their ancient duties, including hauling rafts of supplies from one area of the island to another.

Hot Air Balloons, Cappadocia

Traveling by hot air balloon over Cappadocia is a traditional tourist activity for a reason. There is something simultaneously calming and thrilling about moving over this beautiful and ancient landscape in a hot air balloon. The slower pace means you can really enjoy the views, and there isn’t the noise of a helicopter or an airplane to detract from your experience.
