Over the past few months vacations have been put on hold, but with the holiday season coming up, travel is unavoidable. If you’re traveling to spend the holidays with your family, there are tons of rules and restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic to keep in mind. Here are five tips to consider when planning holiday trips this year.

Pre-Check State Requirements

Before you leave, make sure and check the requirements for traveling to your destination as well as those for leaving/returning to your current state. Many states require quarantines and negative COVID-19 tests.

Be Smart About Airlines

Some airlines have stricter practices when it comes to social distancing than others like blocking the middle seats. If you can afford to upgrade, sitting in first class may offer more space.

Avoid Layovers if Possible

With more stops, you’ll be coming in contact with more people, which increases your risk of exposure. When possible, choose direct flights.

Arrive Early

Be prepared for usual holiday delays plus new ones due to safety precautions and long lines. It’s best to arrive a few hours before departure to allow for these issues.

Stock Up on Safety Essentials

While most flight have been handing out sanitizer wipes on board, you should also bring your own to sanitize your seat and tray table. You can now even bring a bottle of 12 ounce hand sanitizer in your carry on. Also, don’t forget to wear a mask and keep it on throughout the flight and when you’re at the airport.
