Sea pools are often formed of natural structures, like rock pools or the foundations of cliffs. When the sea comes in, these pools get replenished with a fresh dose of salty sea water, and when the ocean recedes these pools are left available for swimming, splashing, and soaking in. Here are three of the best in the UK.

Bude, Cornwall

Bude’s sea pool is one of the most famous in the region, so in the summer months it can get crowded. It is naturally deep in parts, meaning you can do some serious swimming, but on warmer days many people also lounge and sunbathe by the water.

Clevedon Marine Lake, Bristol

While this pool was built by humans, it’s still filled by natural processes. The water enters from the Bristol Channel, a stretch of water with one of the highest tidal ranges in the world. From the pool, you get views of the pretty, Victorian town of Clevedon, as well as glimpses of the landscapes over the water, in Wales.

Walpole Bay, Margate

This stunning tidal pool is absolutely huge, meaning that even if it’s busy you should be able to get your lengths in. It was built in 1937 and helped to cement Margate’s reputation as one of Britain’s best seaside resorts. Once you’ve finished your swim, why not amble along the seashore and get an ice cream? After all that exercise, you deserve it.
