Lakes have a lot to offer – whether you’re visiting for their natural beauty, to find some tranquility, or to take part in some fun watersports, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for. Across Asia, there are many incredibly beautiful lakes that are worth checking out. Here is a selection of the very best.

Dal Lake, Kashmir

Situated within Srinagar, a city which is the summer capital of the region of Jammu and Kashmir, this lake is known as the ‘Lake of Flowers’. Tourists and locals alike flock here, to view the peaceful waters, the blossoming lotus flowers during July and August, and the stunning mountains in the background. There are many temples, shrines, and other religious sites around the shores of the lake, some of which are open to visitors. It is also possible to boat on the lake, canoe hire is available from several locations around the shore.

Kayangan Lake, Coron Island, Philippines

Known as one of the clearest lakes in the world, this stunning azure jewel is well worth a visit. Visit during the peak season, between March and May, to make the most of those clear waters and skies with some swimming and sunbathing. Do be aware that this is the time when top destinations around the Philippines will be incredibly busy, so it may be worth arriving early to get the best spot! Boat tours are very popular on the lake, and you can even travel from Kayangan Lake to other nearby lakes and lagoons.

Phayao Lake, Thailand

With the city of Phayao straddling its shore, this is an area that combines natural beauty with urban excitement. Make sure to check out all that Phayao has to offer – stroll through the streets, visit its markets, and taste some of the delicious fresh food on offer in its cafes and restaurants. You can stroll by the shore, admiring the lake from land, or take a boat out and gaze back at the city.
