The changing colors on the trees and the crispness in the air make fall a wonderful time of year. If you’re going to be in Europe for this one, considering heading to one of these locations to really experience the true beauty of the season.
Lake District, England
The Lake District was where one of England’s most famous poets, William Wordsworth, came to reside. He loved the natural beauty and splendor of this place, and many visitors would agree with him. In fall, the mountains are reflected in the lakes and the trees turn from green to gold. The cafes and pubs are much emptier than during the summer season, and you have a good chance at finding some peace and solitude in the stunning region.
Sighisoara, Romania
Located within Transylvania, you will find plenty of forests, forts and medieval castles in this enchanting town. Hike in the hills around, or explore the quaint streets of the town itself. Legend tells that Dracula was born in the town, so take advantage of the spooky tours on offer to get in the mood for Halloween.
Apennine Mountains, Italy
These mountains in central Italy are less intense than the Alps, but by no means less beautiful. Hike in the day, and in the evening enjoy the local flavors which will include foraged mushrooms, wild boar, goat cheese and fresh autumnal fruits. The changing trees are particularly beautiful in this region, turning to a mix of fiery orange and burnt gold.
