Some of the world’s most spectacular volcanoes can be found in Central and South America, and Ecuador is home to quite a few. If you’re an adrenaline junkie exploring this country, here are three spectacular volcanic hikes you shouldn’t miss for the world.

Cotopaxi

Cotopaxi is a pretty popular day trip destination from Quito due to its relatively close proximity to the capital of Ecuador, but that’s not the only reason to visit it. Nature lovers can’t resist this active volcano because they can hike, climb, and explore glaciers and amazing views while here.

Chimborazo

Chimborazo hasn’t erupted since 550 AD, so it’s not a surprise that adrenaline seekers aren’t afraid to visit it in person. It’s especially popular with climbers since it’s believed to be the farthest point on the surface from Earth’s center, in addition to being Ecuador’s highest mountain with a peak elevation of 6,263 meters.

Cayambe

Ecuador’s third highest peak, Cayambe is best known for its rugged, snow-capped slopes. Despite the fact it’s one of the most challenging climbing spots in the entire country, it’s pretty popular with adventurers and mountaineers visiting Ecuador.
