There’s no doubt that there is a whole wealth of things to do and see in the South Korean capital of Seoul. This world-class city takes a long time to see in its entirety, so not making time for a day trip or two on your trip here is understandable.

However, if you are looking to escape the big city bustle on an occasion or two while in Seoul, you’re in luck because there are plenty of great things to see and do in close proximity. Here are three to keep in mind!

Hwaseong Fortress

Located in the city of Suwon to the south of Seoul is the fascinating Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that has stood since the late 1700s. This fortress can be easily accessed and its walls and impressive towers are a place where you can get lost for hours.

Jeonju

Jeonju, a medium-sized city of over 600,000 inhabitants is just under 2-hours away from Seoul on a modern high-speed rail line. Here, you’ll find the perfect opportunity to get lost in the city’s hilltop pavilions, religious shrines, and local restaurants and bars to try the region’s local rice wine.

Nami Island

Are you looking to escape to nature in order to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of Seoul? If so, you should definitely make Nami Island a stop on your list. A boat will take you to this small island in the Han River where you can get lost in its forests, gardens, and agricultural fields on foot for hours.
