Amman Citadel is one of Jordan’s most important historical landmarks, and a visit to Amman isn’t complete without it. This historic site has been inhabited by many civilizations over the centuries, and here are the most important structures you should check out during your visit.
Temple of Hercules
This temple is the most significant Roman structure in the Amman Citadel and the main reason why people visit it in the first place. It mostly consists of the columns of an unfinished temple and the mysterious hand of Hercules that visitors find truly fascinating.
Jordan Archaeological Museum is located on top of the Amman Citadel, and it’s the best place to learn more about Jordan’s ancient history since it features artifacts dating all the way back to the prehistoric times.
Umayyad Palace
Located right behind the museum, this domed palace will make you see the Amman Citadel in a whole new light. Its exterior is truly breathtaking, but make sure to peek inside while you’re there because the audience hall happens to be its most striking feature.
