By now, everyone’s heard of The Queen’s Gambit, which is one of the most-watched Netflix shows of all time. After the show premiered, chess became much more popular than ever and chess books went up more than 600 percent from last years. And one hotel is jumping in on the hype.
Kimpton is launching a “chessboard lending program” at select hotels across the country that are inspired by the show. These hotels will deliver chessboards to your room so you can prepare to win your next match.
The hotels participating in the program include Armory in Bozeman, Mont., Cardinal in Winston-Salem, N.C., Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, Journeyman in Milwaukee, Muse in New York, Palomar in Philadelphia, Shorebreak in Huntington Beach, California, and Monaco hotels in Denver, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Salt Lake City.
The Shorebreak one offers a gigantic outdoor chessboard that you can enjoy while soaking up the California sun. Other hotels are making cocktails and mocktails inspired by the show. The cocktails include Beth’s White Lady cocktail, the “Check Mate”, the “Sicilian Defense” and “The Queen’s Gambit.”
