The Last Frontier of the United States, the dramatically beautiful state of Alaska, is a true paradise for nature lovers. Featuring snow-capped mountains, frozen tundra, breathtaking coastlines, and rushing rivers, those who love the outdoors will truly feel at home here.

Do you love fishing? If so, Alaska should be near the top of your list for destinations as it features some of the best freshwater and saltwater fishing that the United States has to offer. Here are three great destinations to keep in mind when planning a trip.

Kenai River

The Kenai River is technically a glacial stream from which cold, nutrient-rich water flows to the Gulf of Alaska. Near the discharge of the river, south of the state’s biggest city of Anchorage, you’ll find some of the best salmon fishing in the world.

Bristol Bay

Are you looking to fish for some of the biggest King Salmon on Earth, but prefer to do so in the open environment of saltwater? Bristol Bay, located between Alaska’s mainland and the Aleutian Islands, brims with salmon along with other fish and is a great place for a deep-sea fishing boat trip.

Homer

Located south of the Kenai River, Homer is a great town to keep in mind when considering Alaskan fishing destinations. Known as the “Halibut Fishing Capital of the World,” the ocean off the shores of Homer is home to this species as well as salmon and rockfish.
