Vacationing with a buddy can be a great way to bond and spend time together, but there are some undeniable challenges too. If you’re planning on taking a vacation with a friend—whether it’s a long weekend away or two months of travel—check out these tips on how to ensure everyone has a good time.

Set The Agenda

Before you get to the airport, you need to have had at least a discussion—and ideally several conversations—about what you want to do on holiday and when. Without this, there is a risk that on arrival at your destination, you and your pal will discover that you have very different ideas about how to enjoy a holiday and this can lead to disagreements.

Plan Some Time Apart

Unless you’re only away for the weekend, it can be a good idea to plan in some time apart. Even the closest of friends can get a little frustrated with one another, especially as travelling can also come with its stresses and pressure points. Take an afternoon out, so you can please yourself and meet up with your friend for dinner, refreshed and ready to socialize again.

Choose Your Accommodation Carefully

Whilst it may be tempting to share a room to save money, you need to decide whether this is really in your best interests. Over a week away, it’s likely that you will need some quiet time to yourself, and if you are feeling a little frustrated with your pal, you probably don’t want to wake up and see their face first thing in the morning.
