Volcano hikes are the ultimate bucket list items for adrenaline seekers, and they have the power to turn each trip into an adventure of a lifetime. Congo is one of the countries that offer this kind of experience because it’s home to some of Africa’s most spectacular volcanoes.

Mount Nyiragongo

One of the most incredible attractions of Virunga National Park, Mount Nyiragongo is one of the most active volcanoes in all of Africa. That’s not stopping adventurous tourists from seeing it in person, and enjoying the incredible views at its lava lake—the largest of its kind.

Mount Sabyinyo

Just like many dormant volcanoes in Congo, Mount Sabyinyo is located near the Rwandan border and it’s home to a colony of mountain gorillas. It’s known by the nickname Old Man’s Teeth, and it’s pretty popular with the tourists exploring the volcanoes of the Virunga Mountains.

Mount Bisoke

Another dormant volcano in the Virunga Mountains, on the border with Rwanda, Mount Bisoke offers a much more relaxing experience than active volcanos. Some visitors are here to observe mountain gorillas, while others prefer exploring its hiking trails and crater lakes.
