]]>In Maryland, the highest point is called Hoye-Crest and it’s about a two-mile hike round trip. You will be rewarded with great mountain views and some picnic benches at the top.
Only an hour north of Hoye-Crest, is Mount Davis, the highest point in Pennsylvania. You can either drive straight to the top or do a combination of one to five-mile hikes depending on how much time you have. In the fall there are great foliage views, and in the summer, the Allegheny mountains provide a nice green scenery.
In between you can stop at the smallest Post Office and smallest church in mainland America, both right next to each other in Silver Lake, West Virginia!

]]>Most people access the drive from Romania’s biggest city, Bucharest. The entire drive can be done from Bucharest and return on the same day, but this will be a long, tiring day and it is best to split it up to two or three days to get the most out of the great experience.
Most of the highway is closed during winter, as the middle part has a very high elevation and lots of snow. The typical opening months are mid-June to mid-October, but it changes from year to year so make sure to research it before you start the trip!
The highway is famous for its incredible switchbacks and green, lush mountains. There are plenty of places to pull over if you want to take pictures, so take your time going around the many steep bends.
You can also stop in unique cities like Brasov, home of Bran Castle, the famous castle that inspired the making of Dracula!

]]>What Ushuaia, Argentina is most famous for is being the jumping-off point of tours to Antarctica. There are plenty of Antarctica trips here, from 5-star cruises to cheaper options, but if this expensive trip isn’t in your budget then soak in the excitement of the explorers coming and going from the docks and shops.
The experience isn’t complete without seeing the Les Eclaireurs Lighthouse in the Beagle Channel. The lighthouse is an icon of the southernmost tip and comes with incredible views and wildlife, especially birds.
Lastly, the weather in Ushuaia creates unique nature in and around the city. It never gets above 62° Fahrenheit, and with lots of rain, you can find lush National Parks and unique views of the bay. ]]>Without international tourists and crowds, almost every destination will be less crowded. This is a unique opportunity to see nature with fewer people—and more natural beauty. Instead of traffic in national parks, you can have better views and see more animals!
In addition to their being fewer crowds, most people traveling will be from the same country or area as you. This could be a unique opportunity to connect with people you normally wouldn’t interact with in your travels and to see different cultures inside your own country. You can learn a lot from people who are similar, yet so different.
Lastly, many people find their own country “boring” or not as cool as traveling internationally. You might not learn a new language, but no matter how small your home country is, there is guaranteed to be a new place to go that you haven’t been to before!

]]>Perhaps Toronto’s most famous park is also its largest. The multitude of hiking trails along with all of the greenery will make you feel as if you are in the forest and not in Canada’s biggest city. A zoo, playgrounds, off-leash dog area, and sports facilities are just some of the activities you can enjoy in addition to the beautiful trails.
Rougue Park was Canada’s first national urban park and offers even more activities than High Park. Here you can hike, fish, or even camp—only 30 minutes east of the heart of downtown. The park stretches until the shores of Lake Ontario and has national historic sites and a beach for swimming.
A little different than the first two parks, the Toronto Music Garden is a unique combination of music and nature. It was inspired by the music of Bach and is known as a great place for quiet and self-contemplation in the city. Take a free tour of the park’s design and history, or catch free classical music concerts on specific nights in the summer for a relaxing night out.

]]>The Coudersport Ice Mine in Pennsylvania is a true natural phenomenon that scientists are still studying. The ice forms in early spring and gets bigger and bigger as the summer gets hotter. As the weather gets colder in the fall, the ice begins to melt and by winter, it is all gone!
Year-round thermometers and instruments help keep track of how this incredible ice mine works but the idea behind it is quite simple. Pockets of cold air are stored from the winter cold, and when the warm air arrives in the spring, it pushes the cold air out through a vent and creates ice. In the summer, the warm air is stored and when the winter cold arrives, the warm air is pushed out and melts the ice.
The Ice Mine is located in Coudersport, PA, in Potter County, an area so beautiful that it is known as “God’s Country”. It is open in the summer and costs only $5 to enter. For that low price, you can see a natural phenomenon and cool off from the summer heat!

]]>With international borders shut and many travel restrictions are in place, more and more people are camping out this summer. Instead of trying to book a campsite, why not head out to a national forest and choose your own quiet spot?
While there are certain restrictions on the National Forest website, for the most part, camping is permitted in almost all areas—as long as you are far enough away from the road and there are no signs restricting camping. That gives you lots and lots of options to find the right spot for you!
In addition to being completely free, National Forest camping is usually more secluded and primitive as well. If you’re looking for a quiet night out in nature, this might be the right choice—just make sure to pack all the necessities, as there are no amenities!
