Most mythical places are just that—mythical. But then there are some that are actual places or are archaeological sites, that you can visit in real life. Even though these places are thought of as myths and legends, they happen to exist and they’re open to visitors. Here are three mythical places you must visit in Europe.

Mount Olympus, Greece

Known as the home of the 12 ancient gods, according to Homer the gods lived in the mountain’s fold and made the Pantheon their meeting place. Now it’s a protected national park and birds, rare plants and animals have made it their home. The mountains are popular among hikers, and more experienced ones head to Mytikas Peak.

King Arthur’s Camelot, Cornwall, England

According to British Library manuscripts, King Arthur is based on an actual person who lived in Shropshire. The Wroxeter archaeological dig site, which has remains of an ancient city and castle, is believed to be King Arthur’s Camelot. While there you can explore possible sword in the stone evidence at Mitchell’s Fold stone circle, Arthur’s birthplace in Tintagel, and Merlin’s Cave.

Loch Ness, Highlands, Scotland

The Loch Ness Monster was once said to inhabit the Loch Ness and you can visit the glacier-carved lake and the Urquhart Castle on the lake’s edge. There are also several monster-related attractions and souvenir shops to visit.
