Traveling on a budget is tough. Even things that are cheap still add up over time. So what’s better than cheap? Free! You can still totally enjoy and get to know a new city without paying for your activities. Here are just some of the things you can do.

Take a Walk in the Park

One of our favorite things to do in a new city is just to find the local “Central Park” type of place and walk around. Bring a book, a blanket, and you can have yourself a picnic. Take a stroll, people watch. You’ll get exercise, enjoy some greenery, and soak in the vibe of the city.

Visit the Market

If you’re ready for something more lively and bustling, heading to the local flea or farmer’s market is one of the best things you can do in a new city. Not only will things be cheaper if you do want to buy something, but it’ll also be teeming with local color and people to observe and enjoy.

Join a Free Walking Tour

To see all of the local sights in a new city quickly and for free, a free walking tour is absolutely the way to go. (Note that tipping is recommended). It’s easy to sign up for, join, and get some great tips and history from local tour guides.
