The California Redwood Forest is one of the most iconic landmarks in all of America. If you’re someone who loves the smell of trees and enjoys trekking through forests, it needs to be on your bucket list. So what should you know about the Redwoods, and what’s the best way to explore them? It all depends on how long you’ll be visiting—so we’ll guide you through it!

A Short Visit

If you only have time to check out the Redwoods for a few hours, have no fear! You’ll be able to internalize the spirit of this landmark by taking the 32-mile Avenue of the Giants trail. In this area, some of these ancient trees have been growing for up to 2,000 years.

Day Trip

Start off your day by trekking through the Avenue of the Giants, and take a quick break when you’re done. Check out the Samoa Cookhouse for lunch, and feel free to indulge in the various arts and crafts they offer in the area as well. For your afternoon hike, the Lady Bird Johnson Grove will round your day out perfectly.

Weekend Trip

After doing all of the things we’ve already mentioned above, there are still many things you can do in the Redwoods! Visit Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, where you’ll be able to seek out Roosevelt elk, which is the largest species of elk in North America. Afterward, you can drive around the area and check out the endless scenery it offers.
