The capital city of Madrid, Spain is home to a collection of some of the best art museums on the planet. The “Golden Triangle” of the Museo del Prado, the Museo Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum make up a trio of places that are a definite must-visit for any art lover.

What’s best of all is that all three of these museums can be visited without paying a single cent! Here’s your guide to visiting Madrid’s best art museums for free!

Museo del Prado

The Museo del Prado features one of the best collections of art on Earth, featuring both Spanish and European artists. The museum’s permanent exhibitions can be visited for free from 6 pm to 8 pm from Monday-Saturday, and from 5 pm to 7 pm on Sundays.

Museo Reina Sofía

If you are a fan of 20th-century art and works such as Picasso’s unforgettable “Guernica,” a stop at the Reina Sofia is a must. Fortunately for your wallet, admission is free on Sundays from 1:30 pm to 7 pm! From Monday to Saturday (excluding Tuesdays, when the museum is closed), you can also get in for free from 7 to 9 pm.

Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza

Despite being a private collection, the Thyssen-Bornemisza also features free of charge opening hours! Plan your trip carefully, however, as the only free time slot offered is on Mondays from noon until 4 pm.
