What Not to Wear to the Airport

When getting ready for a vacation, all the excitement of packing and planning can mean that we forget about one important thing – what we wear to the airport. From a practical point of view, there are many accessories and outfits that are not ideal for moving through security and waiting in the lounge. Read on for the top three items that shouldn’t be worn to the airport.

Jeans

Many people’s go-to clothing item, jeans are often heavy and stiff, which doesn’t make for the best comfort when you’re in the lounge. Jeans also have metal buttons, zips, and other embellishments, meaning they are more likely to set off the alarm in security. Most of the time, this is a minor inconvenience and you’re quickly through, but every now and then setting the alarm off may get you held up in security for longer than expected. Temperatures can often shift when traveling, from too cold on the plane to too hot when you arrive in your glamorous destination, so again jeans aren’t ideal in terms of trapping heat.

Heeled Shoes

Even with all your planning and preparation, if your flight gate is changed at the last minute, you may have to run through several departure lounges to reach your plane. You will also be walking long distances to reach different parts of the airport, waiting in line (generally standing up), and climbing up and down steep, uneven stairs. For these reasons, heels aren’t ideal for the airport. Why not maximize your suitcase space and pack a pair of heels, whilst you wear your sturdiest, waterproof, most comfortable boots to go through the airport?

Any Pants That Require a Belt

As noted with the jeans, anything metallic is likely to set off the security alarm. This means you will have to remove your belt before you pass through the scanners, so obviously you want to be wearing pants that won’t slip down without the belt! If you’re sitting for hours, a belt is also likely to dig in and make you uncomfortable, so opt for joggers or soft pants that won’t cut in.
