Even for the most social of butterflies, the benefits of independent travel should not be overlooked. Cheaper, more fulfilling, and a lot more flexible, independent travel is also much easier than one would initially anticipate. When traveling independently you can customize the perfect trip, making it infinitely more personal. And while it may sound daunting at first, with travel guides right in our back pockets, you no longer need to accept a tin sardine holiday.
But what about independent traveling as a woman? Many still assume that setting off alone as a woman might require a great deal of bravery, as you might feel isolated or intimidated. Travel blogger Leyla Giray Alyanak wants to assure you that solo female travel isn’t anything to be scared of. In fact, it is something every woman should aspire to.
Giray Alyanak’s blog, Women on the Road, is dedicated to just that, providing other women travelers with planning tools, creative tactics for spending less, and other tips and tricks, alongside essential information to help women stay safe and deal with unfamiliar situations on the road.
“This entire website should NOT be necessary,” she admits on her website, where she talks freely and candidly about her experiences. “Solo female travelers should not need to take special precautions, travel with greater awareness or behave in certain ways just because we are women. But sadly, the world is a less than perfect place, and we do have to be aware of those differences. I won’t let them stop me from traveling on my own, and I trust you won’t either.”
