Whenever you’re traveling, you never want to bring any more than you need to. Especially when it comes to cosmetics where you can’t bring more than a few ounces if you don’t check a bag, being strategic about your toiletry case is key. But, if you bring one magic ingredient, you can eliminate the use for makeup remover or wipes, body lotion, and even lip balm!

A few months ago, when I started thinking about Zero Waste and sustainability, I considered what it was I threw away the most of in every room of my house. I was AMAZED when I realized most of my bathroom trash was makeup wipes. I am a huge lover of makeup as an art form and self expression, but I was struck with the impact this was probably having on my health and DEFINITELY having on our planet. I immediately made the decision to change to a sustainable alternative. This was an easy switch for me. I had read on many zero waste pages and blogs that coconut oil made one hell of a makeup remover. Armed with a fear of oily skin being aggravated and a limited knowledge of what all the different types were, I headed to my local Fresh Thyme and selected this jar off the shelf. I have been consistently using it as a makeup remover for a few months and have noted several things. 1. IT WORKS!! It is simultaneously a stronger makeup remover and more gentle on my skin and eyes than anything I've ever used. No burning when I remove eye makeup! 2. It not only didn't break out my oily skin, it improved it. I've been having healthier skin overall since beginning this. 3. It produces no home waste. I simply dip my fingers in the jar, warm up the coconut oil, rub it on my face, and use a clean rag specifically for my face or (sometimes when I'm lazy) a towel to wipe it off. Glass can be recycled without losing any quality so when this jar is empty it can be recycled indefinitely by other awesome people committed to sustainable choices. 4. You stop noticing the coconut smell after a few days, it seemed really strong at first. 5. It's more affordable! I used to spend about $6 on a pack of makeup wipes that lasts a month. This jar was about $12 and has easily lasted 3 times that long and counting. So if you're looking for an alternative, there are 5 awesome reasons to make this sustainable switch today! #Sustainability #Sustainable #SustainableLiving #SustainableLifestyle #ZeroWaste #ZeroWasteLifestyle #ZeroWasteTransition #MotherEarth #SaveThePlanet #GoingGreen #LittleChanges #MakeupRemover #MakeupHack #CoconutOil #CoconutOilBenefits #CoconutOilMakeupRemover

The answer to all your skincare and makeup needs is coconut oil. Coconut oil does so much good for many places on your body and is a great thing to travel with. All you have to do is is scoop it into a little releasable jar that’s under the TSA liquid limit, and you can kill three birds with one product.

To use coconut oil as a makeup remover, it couldn’t be simpler. Just take the coconut oil, rub it on your fingers if it’s not already in a liquid state, and rub it onto your face gently to get rid of your makeup. Wash your face after with warm water and you’re ready for bed! You can also use the coconut oil as a hand and body lotion, and even to moisturize your lips.
