Most people visiting Egypt are there to dive into its ancient past, but its nature is just as impressive. This African country is home to several national parks and protected areas that you should explore during your visit and these three are a good place to start.

White Desert National Park

The White Desert aka Sahara el Beyda is located in the midst of the Farafra depression, and it’s one of Egypt’s most breathtaking natural wonders. Unusual white chalk rock formations caused by sandstorms are scattered all around it, while the national park itself serves as the refuge to many species of wild animals.

Gabal Elba National Park

This national park borrows its name from Elba Mountain, and its summit is often described as a “mist oasis”, unlike any other in the entire country. It’s best known for its biodiversity, especially diverse flora with hundreds of different plant species.

Wadi El Gamal National Park

If you want to explore one of Egypt’s biggest natural wonders on the shores of the Red Sea, it doesn’t get much better than Wadi El Gamal. Its islands are a breeding ground for many diverse animal species, including some rare kinds of mammals, birds, and turtles.
