Visiting ancient destinations that have existed for thousands of years holds appeal for many.

Angkor Wat, Cambodia

Angkor Wat was the 9th century capital of the Khmer Empire. The temple, which took 30 years to construct, is believed to be the largest religious building in the world. The Bayon Temple is another must-see with its exterior of 200 carved stone faces.

Pompeii, Italy

Visiting the volcano-stricken town of Pompeii in Italy gives you an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of those who lived there just before the ash began falling. You are able to see the bodies of victims in plaster casts, paintings on the walls and even a brothel.

The simple act of walking on the stepping-stones in Pompei hits you in the sense that you realize you are literally walking in the same place as the victims before the volcano demolished their town.

Delphi, Greece

In Delphi, you can visit the place where the oracle gave advice to the Greeks and the Romans. You can see the temple, a stadium, and treasuries with dedications to Apollo. It’s in a beautiful setting in the mountain, and really worth the climb.

In the Delphi Archeological Museum, you can see display works dating from the Hellenistic period to the 5th century BC.
