Thailand, with its tropical beaches, opulent royal palaces and picturesque temples have been one of the most booked tourist destinations in the world for a few years now. However, if you have never been to this Southeast Asian country, there are a few things you should be aware of.

Invest in a bug spray

A high-quality bug spray is maybe one of the most important things you should pack in your suitcase. Due to its tropical climate, Thailand is well known for its bugs and mosquitos. So, invest in a good bug spray if you don’t want to ruin your vacation with an unbearable itching, or worse, with an allergic reaction. Carry a travel-size spray everywhere you go.

Bring your own toilet paper

Toilet seats aren’t popular in Thailand. Many bathrooms have squat toilets and no toilet paper. Instead, they use “bum guns.” So, if you aren’t used to “washing up,” you should always keep a container of tissues or a toilet paper with you.

Be aware of scammers

Scammers are everywhere in Thailand. It is actually a well-developed network that has been active for decades. Don’t get fooled, jewelry sold on the streets is fake. One of the most common scams is done by tuk-tuk drivers who offer sightseeing tours for 10 Baht. However, after the sightseeing, they take you to some jewelry stores where the jewelry is “real” and will try to convince you to buy something. Don’t fall for it!

Don’t touch anyone’s head

In Thailand the head is considered the most sacred part of the body, so never touch anyone’s head. Also, the feet are the least sacred part. Never point at anything with your feet if you don’t want to be disrespectful.
