There are some cities and countries that are thought of to be relatively cheap, but watch out, some of them throw in hidden costs that you otherwise might overlook. If you want to be a savvy traveler, let this guide help you out.

Cover Fees

Italy’s biggest cities are huge touristic attraction, and for the most part, fairly affordable. However, one area that they can get you with hidden fees is a cover fee at restaurants. While most young people are accustomed to covers at bars or clubs, a restaurant is an odd place to find them. Although not every place has them make sure you look at the menu to see what it is before you sit down.

Water

Many countries in Europe, but especially Spain, will not serve you tap water at a restaurant. Instead, you have to buy either a bottle of water or occasionally a locally sourced mineral water that they have on a special tap. This might not seem like a big deal, but if you are a big drinker or are traveling during the summer, it can really start to add up.

Bathrooms

In many countries like the Netherlands, you have to pay to use the bathroom. Even in places like gas stations, you still will have to pay a fee, so go where it’s free whenever you can!
