There’s a Supermarket in Croatia With UNESCO Protection

The Billa supermarket in the Croatian city of Split is not your average store. It’s located inside a complex that includes a palace from the 3rd century CE. Inside, you can see Roman columns between the aisles. Because of this, the supermarket is protected by the UNESCO, a specialized agency for contributing to peace and security.

Split is a popular tourist destination that is easily reachable by ferry from the Game of Thrones-famous city of Dubrovnik. Split offers amazing beaches and historical monuments from Roman and medieval times, but also modern entertainment and vivid nightlife.

The Billa supermarket has been acquired by a food retail chain SPAR and the protected store is located in the historic center of Split.
