Even though the pandemic is disrupting construction work, the Studio Ghibli theme park will still be able to open its doors in 2022, as it was planned. This was recently reported by Sora News 24, as they quoted Aichi prefecture governor Hideaki Omura who said: “We are still on track and are planning to open the park in Fall 2022.”

The first Studio Ghibli attraction is being built in the Aichi prefecture close to Nagoya. It will have five distinct zones, and three of them are under construction at the moment. These three are Whisper of the Heart, Spirited Away, and My Neighbour Totoro. Two others, Witch Valley and Mononoke Village, are yet to start construction.

2022 seems pretty far for Studio Ghibli fans who can’t wait to visit the new theme park, but given the current situation in the world, it’s unlikely that people from most of the world could travel to Japan sooner anyway.

We can’t wait to see how the theme park will turn out! It’s definitely going to become a must-see attraction for everyone visiting Japan. Until you get your chance to see it, you can watch your favorite Studio Ghibli movies again—many of them are available on Netflix!
