A good part of every travel is a visit to the museum. Whether it be history, art, or nature, everyone has a reason to visit a city’s museums. Once in a while we come across a particularly strange one and want to visit for the laughs.

Here is a list of some of the most unique ones in the world:

Loch Ness Museum, Inverness, Scotland

Most people have heard of the Loch Ness monster. It’s part of fairy tales and legend has it that it lives in a lake in Scotland.

Most people don’t know that there’s a full museum and display dedicated to this monster. Scientists have done years of research and spent millions of dollars trying to prove the existence of the Loch Ness Monster! While they never found proof, they did learn a lot about this fascinating lake and on the way had some great stories to tell.

Museum of Toilet History, Kyiv, Ukraine

There are actually quite a few museums about toilets but this small, privately owned one in Kyiv is very friendly and welcoming. The founder of the museum was a plumber and was fascinated by toilets and started collecting toilet items. He ended up with the Guinness World Record for the most toilet collectible items and on the way founded the museum!

Torture Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands

There are quite a few torture museums as well, but this one is the most famous and accessible, being that Amsterdam is one of the most toured cities in the world. The museum sounds strange, but it is quite interesting and tells the history of different methods used, mostly in Europe, in the past thousand years. Think of it as a history lesson!

Instant Ramen Museum, Ikeda City, Osaka

This is college students’ paradise as this museum tells the story of how the instant soups were founded right here in this city in Japan. Everyone needs a quick meal now and then so why not learn how it was created?

Sewer Museum, Paris, France

Paris is known as the romantic city, but this museum will help you take it down a notch. Paris has been giving tours of the underground sewer system since 1880 and it is quite fascinating to learn how all the sewage works in such a big city!
