Italy is embracing a nostalgic yet innovative approach to travel with the launch of a new night train, the Espresso Cadore, connecting Rome to the exquisite ski destination of Cortina d’Ampezzo in the Dolomites. This service launched on December 15 just in time for the ski season.

A Journey Through Time and Beauty

Departing every Friday at 9:40 p.m. from Rome and arriving the next morning around 08:00 at Calalzo, this overnight journey is more than just a means to an end. With stops at scenic locales like Orte, Orvieto, Treviso, Ponte nelle Alpi, and Longarone-Zoldo, the journey itself promises a picturesque prelude to the alpine adventures that await.

Vintage Vibe, Modern Comfort

The Espresso Cadore isn’t just any train. It’s a rolling hotel. The service, an initiative of FS Treni Turistici Italiani, emphasizes the concept of “trains as hotels,” ensuring that your holiday begins the moment you step aboard. The train features repurposed carriages from the ’80s and ’90s, offering a nostalgic touch with 220 beds available in a mix of single or double-bed cabins, as well as four or six-person sleepers suitable for groups. And it comes with the added luxury of dinner and breakfast service.
