The LaLaurie Mansion (New Orleans, Louisiana)

The story behind the LaLaurie Mansion is so disturbing, that Ryan Murphy decided to include in the third season of American Horror Story. Madame LaLaurie used her attic as a torture chamber and the building is believed to be haunted by the horrors of its past today.

The Stanley Hotel (Estes Park, Colorado)

This is the hotel that inspired Stephen King’s iconic horror, The Shining. In 1090, the Massachusetts couple F.O. and Flora Stanley opened the resort and reportedly never left.

Eastern State Penitentiary (Philadelphia)

The Gothic prison was the first to introduce solitary confinement. Prisoners suffered madness after being denied human contact and some people claim their cries can still be heard today.
