If you plan on going to Peru, then there are places that are simply ‘musts’ and that will never be a cliché. Here are three locations that need to be on the list of everyone planning to visit Peru.  

Macchu Picchu 

Of course, this is gonna be number one! The great citadel of Machu Picchu is one of the most mysterious archaeological sites in the world. Visited by hundreds of thousands of people a year, this location is a must if it’s your first time in Peru and it’s also considered to be a world wonder!  

Choquequirao 

Considered to be the last Inca refuge, the Vilcabamba Valley holds the mysterious Choquequirao. Located at the top of the Apurimac canyon, this place is as intriguing as Machu Picchu, so you can spend some time around ancient ruins but with fewer people around.

Been in Peru for over a week now and Monday through Friday of this past week was spent doing a 4-day, 4-night trek in the Andean mountains to the spectacular Incan ruin of #Choquequirao. This is a huge, but lesser known (and significantly more difficult to reach) sister citadel to Machu Picchu. The terrain was very steep, and the hiking was pretty much the most strenuous of my life, with high altitude, huge elevation changes, and trail conditions that all left me breathless. The rewards were incredible, with vistas that I’ve never before experienced, very few other people, and a beautiful ruin that really is special, and different than its well-known kin, Machu Picchu. With my wife Cathleen @chezcerise, our guide William, and a team of porters and chefs (it was a bit absurd, I’ll admit…I’m used to carrying everything myself, but the food was awe-inspiring), we really did the trip up properly. Andean condors were a treat to the eyes on more than one occasion, and the final night we spent in a small cabin near the trailhead at #capuliyoc, in the shadow of Mt. Padreyoc (+/- 19,000ft). National park Huascarán 

Some people call these mountains the Peruvian Alps, so that should tell you a lot about their beauty. The National Park Huascarán is located in the department of Ancash and has a lot of glaciers and summits, some of which are 6000 meters above sea level. Cordillera Blanca is the name of the mountain range where you can witness outstanding landscape unlike any other place in the world!
