The Best of Bologna in One Day

Bologna is a university city in Italy and the capital of the Emilia Romagna region. If you make it a part of your travel itinerary but only have one day to explore it, here are some things you have to see.

Piazza Maggiore

The best place to start your day is Piazza Maggiore, located at the very center of the city. Here you can see the Basilica di San Petronio church, and other elements typical for main squares in Italian cities.

The Two Towers

After having lunch at one of many places with great Italian food, it’s time to climb one of two towers known as Le due Torri. Your reward at the top is an amazing panoramic view of the city that will explain why Bologna is often called “La Rossa”—it’s because of its many red rooftops.

Sanctuary of the Madonna San Luca

Take a break and have a gelato, then head to the Sanctuary of the Madonna San Luca. The beautiful church sits on top of the Colle or Monte della Guardia hill and it’s one of the oldest churches in the region, overlooking the city.
