Tel Aviv, Israel is one of the most lively cities in the Middle East. Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, it has an amazing eclectic vibe that is both very Israeli but also very beachy. The city has an enormous amount of activities to do from epic culture sites to laid-back restaurants and cafes. If you are looking for a city that has all the hustle and bustle but in the size of a small town, put Tel Aviv on your must-see list.

What to Do

Tel Aviv has some of the best beaches in the world. Although the country itself is only the size of New Jersey, it maintains 170 miles of coastline along the Mediterranean Sea. Tel Aviv has a small bit of that, but it’s really all you need. Some of the best beaches are in the south and north parts of the city. To the south, Banana Beach has really beautiful clean sand and is not usually too crowded. To the north, Tel Baruch has an amazing cove, perfect for swimming.

Tel Aviv has many museums that are worth your while. The Tel Aviv Museum of Art is a large campus full of auditoriums along with the museums, all houses in stunningly modern architecture. The Eretz Israel Museum is another museum worth going to because it tells the history of the country and has a good archeological display.

What to See

Each neighborhood in Tel Aviv brings something new. Rothschild Boulevard is one of the main streets in the city and was one of the first to be built. This street is in the heart of the city, as well as within the UNESCO White City. The tree-lined street has cafes, restaurants, bars, shops, and is also the financial center of the city. Neve Tzedek is another stunning neighborhood of Tel Aviv. The vibe of the area is much calmer but still exciting because of the businesses and architecture.

Old Jaffa is in the southern part of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa municipality. Here you will find a 19th-century clock tower along with charming cobblestone streets, a fabulous flea market, and amazing restaurants all along the sea. While you’re here, you must visit Abu Hassan for their famous fast-paced yet incredibly delicious hummus. If you want to see some seriously stylish Israeli design houses and brands, visit the Noga district in Jaffa and you’ll be in for a real treat with the array of boutiques you will find.

What to Eat

Israeli food is an amazing fusion between all that the Middle East has to offer, along with a combination of other immigrants food that has been assimilated into the culture. Falafel is one of the most famous street food items to get, and it is simply scrumptious. One of the best places to get it from is Hakosem near the Dizengoff Center mall. Shwarma is another street food you need to try, which can be any type of meat that is stacked on a spit and shaved off into pita bread.
