Almost every kid on the planet was asked the question, “what do you want to be when you grow up?” Answers range from ballet dancer to doctor to princess. Just because we’ve grown up doesn’t mean we no longer have dream job. Remitly, a global money transfer company, compiled data from Google searches to find out what citizens of the world would like to be.

Pilot

If travel has always been a passion, chances are high that you have considered a job in the industry. 25 countries expressed interest in being a pilot, raking up a whopping 930,630 searches. The countries who had pilot as their top choice include the UK, Australia, Canada, and the US.

Writer

No one is too keen to sit in an office for 8 hours a day anymore. Working remotely has become the preference for most, while some people take it even further by becoming a digital nomad. One way to make this plausible is by having a career in writing. There were 801,200 searches from 75 countries asking how to be a writer. It was the #1 ambition in South Africa, Sweden, and New Zealand.

YouTuber

The top YouTube star in the world, MrBeast, earns around $54 million a year. Although he is in the big leagues, many people across the globe have considered careers in content creation. YouTuber was the dream job of those in Mexico, Bolivia, Chile, and Uruguay, coming in with 195,070 searches which put it in 4th place behind dancer.

One of the world’s most popular destinations is on the brink of endangerment.

Venice has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, thanks to its grand architecture and canal network. Yet, the city has been under concern for the last few years due to climate change and the effects of over-tourism.

The result is that UNESCO has now proposed that Venice be added to its list of World Heritage in Danger sites.

Amongst the list are ancient cities like Aleppo in Syria, Jerusalem in Israel, and the historic center of Odesa in Ukraine.

The matter of Venice’s inclusion was last discussed at a UNESCO meeting in September. Italian officials have attempted to rectify the situation by banning cruise ships along the waterways and considering a tourist tax in an attempt to limit the number of visitors, but the global organization has called these measures “currently insufficient and not detailed enough.”

UNESCO further stated that Italy has not been communicating in a sustained and substantive manner since its last Committee session in 2021 when the threat of blacklisting the City of Water was already under consideration.

The Venetian municipality has said that it would review the proposed decision and discuss it with the Italian government.

For all of us regular humans here on planet Earth, travel has always consisted of going to check out another terrestrial spot without leaving our own planet. However, as the possibility for space travel becomes more and more real, there are some businesses that are already looking to take advantage of the trend.

The Gateway Foundation, a California-based company which announced its plans for an orbiting, space-based hotel back in 2019, has placed a name on the project and plans to open in 2027 if all goes right.

Voyager Station will be the name of this space hotel and it will offer up a truly one-of-a-kind experience to the travelers who are lucky enough to stay there. This ambitious project, which involves 24 different “modules” connected by an elevator shaft that will orbit Earth, was inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey.”  The hotel is expected to feature simulated gravity and will attempt to be as similar as possible to a luxury Earth hotel, including a bar, a restaurant, and all the amenities you would expect on Earth.

The views, however, will literally be out-of-this-world. A unique perspective of the Blue Planet awaits guests who end up staying at the Voyager Station. Expect more news about this game-changing project to come over the next few years before construction is scheduled to begin in 2026!

Malta is a small country near the Mediterranean Sea that you don’t need an excuse to visit, because it’s stunning and makes a perfect summer vacation spot. If that’s not enough to make you visit it, you’ll be happy to know it’s now paying tourists who want to visit this year.

Campaign to Improve Tourism

Malta will open for tourists on June 1st and the country has prepared vouchers for hotels and activities like diving. They hope to bring around 35,000 tourists to the country in an effort to help tourism. This basically means you can be paid to stay in a hotel or to try diving, so if you’re interested, see more information here.

What’s There?

What can Malta offer you? Besides stunning beaches that are perfect for a chill vacation, the country has a rich history and interesting cities that you will remember for the rest of your life. Some of the structures you can see there are among the oldest in the world. The climate is mild and warm, just like the rest of the Mediterranean. It’s really a place where you can forget about real life and completely relax for a few weeks.

Have you visited Malta before? Is it on your bucket list?

As the world continues to advance in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccinations are being given out to millions around the world and restrictions are beginning to loosen as a light appears at the end of the tunnel. How will this affect travel in summer 2021? Will you be able to visit other countries and see the world? The answer is hopeful, but complicated.

Who’s Vaccinated?

Many countries have already begun setting up systems in which fully vaccinated travelers will be able to cross into their borders from abroad. This benefits travelers from places like the United States, the UK, and Chile, where nearly half of the population has been vaccinated against the disease.

However, it might cause problems for people who want to travel from other countries where vaccinations have gone more slowly. Keep waiting for your chance to get the jab if you haven’t been lucky enough to do so yet, as this could open a mountain of possibilities.

Tread Lightly

While some countries are looking at this idea for vaccinated travelers, there are others that aren’t even taking vaccination status into consideration for travelers. Mexico is a good example. While this might be an easier option, keep in mind that you will need to take extra precautions while heading to countries like these.

Be sure to keep a close eye on internet sources and news reports to see what restrictions and what possibilities will open up over the next few months. Our long travel nightmare might soon be coming to a close!

The past twelve months have represented the most challenging period for travel in recent history. The COVID-19 pandemic has reduced mobility, closed country borders, and limited people from traveling for most of the past year.

To this day, most of the world’s countries are not letting in international travelers for leisure vacations, and it might seem like this situation will never end. But will it, soon?

Vaccinations in most of the developed world are being administered and distributed at a rapid rate. Experts point to the immunity generated by vaccinations as the most key step for our world regaining something similar to normalcy and reaching herd immunity.

The moment at which herd immunity is reached, which will come accompanied by a lower caseload and hospitalization rates, is the most likely stepping stone for the re-opening of countries and the return of international travel.

So, when might this happen? Most developed nations are aiming to finish the vaccination of a large majority of their populations at some point between this summer and this fall. This means that, if things go well, much of the world may open up by the time fall or winter 2021 comes around. Summer is unlikely, but looking just a few months later, there is hope on the horizon.

However, keep in mind that not all travel destinations are in the developed world and that this may force them to wait until they get their hands on enough vaccinations to keep their own populations safe. We will just have to wait and see.

It seems as if our long travel nightmare might be finally coming to an end, so start thinking about where your dreams might take you.

We’re a month into 2021 and the Covid-19 pandemic is still far from over. Some countries are more in trouble than others so the restrictions vary depending on where you live. When it comes to traveling to Asia from the U.S., here are your options at the moment.

Maldives

International travelers have been able to get to the Maldives since July 2020, with a negative Covid-19 test as the only condition. It’s possible to get picked randomly for a PCR test once you arrive at the airport.

UAE

U.S. citizens traveling to the UAE receive tourist visas as they arrive at the airport. A negative PCR test is mandatory, though, as well as international medical travel insurance.

Turkey

Similar conditions apply when traveling to Turkey. The arriving travelers are screened for Covid and they need proof that they are Covid-19 negative not older than 72 hours.

Other Asian countries that are open to travelers from the U.S. include Nepal, Jordan, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Cambodia.

All international travelers who arrive in the U.S. will have to showcase a negative Covid-19 test starting from January 26th, 2021, as the CDC recently announced. The order applies to both U.S. citizens and foreign travelers and it requires passengers who arrive by plane to show proof of a negative test not older than three days when they fly into the U.S. They can also show proof that they’ve recovered from the disease in the past or that they’ve received the vaccine.

Currently, residents of the U.S. are can’t travel to most of the world, and the countries that allow Americans have been requiring negative Covid tests for months, so this policy is long overdue.

The pandemic restrictions affected the number of international flights a lot in the past year. It’s estimated that there’s around 75% less travel than in previous years, and the numbers of domestic flights have also been down in the U.S.

The news about a successful Covid-19 vaccine traveled around the world in the past several days, saying that it will be effective in 90% of the cases. While this certainly makes us optimistic, what does it mean for traveling in the near future?

A new vaccine that’s been developed by Pfizer and BioNTech is apparently effective in 90% of people who got it, and it’s already been tested on over 43,000 people in six countries. Until now, no safety issues have been noticed. Nine out of 10 people who got the vaccine developed immunity against Covid-19.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t mean that traveling will be back to normal within weeks or months. The vaccine still needs to be approved and get a license and the first millions of doses will be given to high-risk groups such as health workers and the elderly.

It may be possible for life to return to normal at some point in 2021, but we need to be patient and see how everything will develop. For now, make sure you and your family are staying safe because this promising news isn’t enough to fight the current pandemic wave.

Numerous countries around the world are still under the influence of the coronavirus pandemic, but the situation in New Zealand is a bit different. Thanks to a quick and effective response back in March, they basically have no new cases and are free to travel locally.

In light of that, Air New Zealand recently launched an interesting campaign for New Zealanders in which they have a chance to go on a Mystery Break for a vacation.

The application for the Mystery Break is simple. The travelers pay one of three flat fees and the airline assigns them a destination out of their list of 20 routes. Travelers will not know the destination until two days before the trip. Don’t worry, there’s an option to say where you don’t want to go.

Depending on the type of arrangement (Great, Deluxe, or Luxury package), the prices range from NZ $599 to $1,629 per person for two nights. “You’ll fly Air New Zealand to your mystery destination, pick up your Avis rental car or transfer, then check in to your Accor hotel. Then it’s up to you. Go exploring, or just kick back and relax,” the airline’s website reads.
