]]>This is probably the most common dessert in Hawaii, and you can find it at luaus, restaurants, even on top of regular wedding cakes. Haupia is a coconut-based custard that is usually topped with flaked coconut, but can also be served with pineapple, made into chocolate versions, and beyond!
Though they are actually Portuguese in origin, malasadas made their way to Hawaii through immigration and colonization. This dessert is super scrumptious as it is basically just a donut but made with much richer ingredients like evaporated milk and eggs. The other difference is that there is no hole and they are usually stuffed with sweet custards like haupia, making them even more decadent.
Lilikoi chiffon pie is unlike any other pie you’ll probably taste. It combines amazing, flaky pastry with a sweet and sour passion fruit filling and topped with chantilly cream or something of the like. It’s like, zingy, sweet, and totally encompasses Hawaii in a pie.

]]>While there are lots of great things to do and sights to see while traveling, sometimes, the best thing to do is simply eat! All of the peoples and regions of the Earth have a huge variety of cuisines that can be experienced by travelers.
One of the travel foodies that have inspired us recently has been Anne, a Dutch blogger that has traveled to over 60 different countries in search of the best bites to eat.
In addition to her blog, Anne also maintains an Instagram account (@anne_travel_foodie), where she posts pictures of the best bites to eat that she’s had on her travels, as well as at home!
We loved this shot of one of Anne’s breakfasts on a trip to Crete. It perfectly shows off how harmonious eating and travel can be.
In addition to her posts about food, you can also find shots of the cities to which she travels from time to time. And trust us, there are plenty of places to check out on her page!
Be sure to give Anne a follow if you love traveling and food as much as we do.

]]>About 350 miles west of Louisiana on the other side of the Gulf of Mexico is Houston, Texas.
Although Texas, in general, is known for Tex-Mex and their specific kind of BBQ, a lot of people don’t realize the city of Houston is booming with Cajun food. Not only is there Cajun food just as good as New Orleans, but it might also even be better with the addition of new traditions, set by the immigrants in the community.
One of the best-known styles is called Viet-Cajun, which is a combination of Vietnamese and Cajun, which go perfectly hand in hand.
This might be even more surprising, as few people would think of a Chinese city as being a hub for Cajun food. But, with a community of crawfish at their disposal, the people of Beijing have taken their own twist on Cajun food, using classic Cajun ingredients.

]]>Every 4th of July, the famous Nathan’s hot dog brand holds a hot dog eating contest at the boardwalk of Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. The Nathan’s company has been around for over 100 years, and although their hot dogs and crinkle cut fries are legendary, most people probably couldn’t stomach how many these contestants have to eat in just 10 minutes. The spirit is even higher at this competition, as it’s also Independence day.
California has a large Asian population, especially from Japan, so it’s no surprise that they have a thriving Japanese food culture that runs throughout the city. But every year, in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of LA, the company Day-Lee Foods puts on a gyoza eating competition! Gyozas are delicious Japanese dumplings, and it’s a fun way to change up the tradition.
