Coney Island, New York

Every 4th of July, the famous Nathan’s hot dog brand holds a hot dog eating contest at the boardwalk of Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York. The Nathan’s company has been around for over 100 years, and although their hot dogs and crinkle cut fries are legendary, most people probably couldn’t stomach how many these contestants have to eat in just 10 minutes. The spirit is even higher at this competition, as it’s also Independence day.

Los Angeles, California

California has a large Asian population, especially from Japan, so it’s no surprise that they have a thriving Japanese food culture that runs throughout the city. But every year, in the Little Tokyo neighborhood of LA, the company Day-Lee Foods puts on a gyoza eating competition! Gyozas are delicious Japanese dumplings, and it’s a fun way to change up the tradition.
