There are so many different ways to travel. Some people love to hop on flights and others prefer to explore their nearby area. If you are traveling across land and want to stop off fairly frequently, then your best two transport options are trains or a vehicle (your own or hired). Here are some things to consider when deciding which is best for you.

You Can Look at the Views on a Train

If you love staring at the beautiful scenery as you pass by it, then a train is perfect. If you’re driving a vehicle you can look briefly but can’t really relax and enjoy the views.

You Have More Freedom in a Vehicle

If you enjoy the sense of ‘going with the flow’ and working out your plans as you go along, then train travel is not ideal. You will have pre-booked journeys to stick to, whereas with a vehicle you can change your plans as often as you like.

Trains Get You Right Into a City

If your travel plans would include some city exploring then trains can be way more helpful for this. You don’t have to worry about finding parking and can just hop off the train right in the center.

You Can Get to More Isolated Places in a Vehicle

If you want to head to wild, natural spaces then a vehicle is a much better option than a train, where your routes and timings are very restricted.

If a trip around Europe is on your bucket list, then you’ll want an efficient way to travel across borders to get the ultimate experience. Enter, the Eurail Pass. Here’s why you should get your hands on the Eurail Pass the next time you decide to explore the best that the European continent has to offer.

Flexibility

With one Eurail Pass, you’ll have access to train networks in 33 countries, making cross-border travel easy if you plan on visiting multiple countries. What’s more, you’ll be able to take unlimited trips during the time period you sign up for, meaning that you can visit as many cities and sites as you desire for the same price.

Seat Reservations

With the Eurail Pass, you’ll be able to perform seat reservations, which is sometimes mandatory when booking certain high-speed lines. Even for those lines where pre-booking is not required, reserving your seat in advance will help to limit your stress before your trip.

No Planning Necessary

When buying individual tickets, you’ll need to ensure that you book for the correct stations and timeslots, which requires serious planning. With a Eurail Pass, you’ll be able to take whatever train rides you require at the time, aside from some lines where you need to make a reservation ahead of time.

Traveling by sleeper train may seem like something out of a murder mystery film, but this is actually a practical and fun way to get around. Here are some of the good sides to this mode of transport.

An Exciting and Novel Experience

For most people, getting on a train to go to bed for the night is quite unusual. If you’re lucky enough to have your own cabin, then this experience can be straightforwardly magical. But even if it’s just a seat in a carriage, there’s still something very unique and fun about this travel option.

Get Travel and Accommodation for the Price of One

So you are traveling on a train to continue with your journey. Why not save on the price of a hostel stay with this overnight train option? If you’re used to dorm rooms then this will feel just like a moving version of that.

A Cheap Way to Travel Long Distances

As you are traveling through the night, this is often much cheaper than the same journey in the daytime. Just take some steps to ensure you get some sleep, and you’ll soon feel like you’ve cracked the traveling code.

Melbourne is well known for having one of the best rail networks in all of Australia. That’s one of the reasons why it’s the no. 1 tourist spot with train lovers visiting this country, and here are three attractions you should see if you happen to be one of them.

Flinders Street Railway Station

Australia’s busiest rail hub and one of Melbourne’s top tourist attractions was completed on its current location in 1909. You don’t have to be a train lover to appreciate it—enjoying the view of this Edwardian building with a stunning dome and arched entrance is quite enough.

Puffing Billy Railway

The classically preserved steam train Puffing Billy is one of the symbols of Melbourne, and booking a ride is a must if you’re visiting this city. A ride through the scenic Dandenong Ranges offers some of the most stunning views in the entire country and it’s especially popular with families.

Little Red Train

Speaking of family-friendly, train-themed attractions in Melbourne, a day-trip to Werribee could be a fun adventure. Custom-built electric Little Red Train is located on its premises, and it offers 10-minute long rides around the park on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Train travel is one of my favorite ways to get from place to place while setting off on vacation. Much less hectic and stressful than plane travel, it might take a little bit longer to travel by train, but even if you are undergoing a relatively long journey, there are plenty of things to do and see while in transit to your destination.

These are the best experiences that you shouldn’t miss while on a long train ride.

Take in the Landscape

One of my favorite things about traveling via train is that you get a close-up and personal look at the landscape that you cross while going from place to place. Whether it’s observing the Australian desert or the small towns of Spain, there are so many interesting landscapes and things to see while riding on a train.

Chat with Your Neighbor

If you aren’t the shy type, a long train voyage can be a perfect opportunity to make new friends and meet new people. Why not try striking up a conversation with the person or people sitting next to you while on your trip? You might just make a friend for life.

Have Something in the Dining Car

Long train journeys almost always include a dining car option, where you can live the unique experience of having a meal or a drink while on a train. Watch the landscape pass by as you dig into a sandwich or steak and you’ll be experiencing one of the most romantic parts of train travel.

Train travel is a great option if you want to stay productive while on the move. Unlike airplanes, which generally cut you off from the outside world, it’s easy to stay connected and work while riding on a train. Try these tips if you are looking to get work or studying accomplished while sitting on a train.

Bring Study Materials

If you’re a student who is planning on riding a train on your next vacation, you might find it a good idea to bring books and materials for studying while riding on the train. It’s easy to completely forget about your studies while traveling, but why not use the time on the train to stay up-to-date?

Use Your Phone’s Network for Internet Connection

Stay Fueled With Snacks

Have you heard about the new low-cost high-speed train service that the Spanish RENFE service will be offering starting on April 6th, 2020?

This service, known as AVLO, will take advantage of Spain’s high-speed rail infrastructure but provide a more basic and scaled-down version of its AVE (normal high-speed) operation in a bet that consumers will flock to the low prices and fast speeds of a budget high-speed train.

Believe it or not, this isn’t the first low-cost, high-speed service that is being offered. France’s SNCF company has a service known as OuiGo that operates on a similar model.

Making its debut in 2013, OuiGo has shown that a low-cost, high-speed model can be successful. Reducing costs by using secondary stations, offering fewer on-board service, and selling tickets exclusively online, SNCF has achieved huge ridership numbers with their new low-cost plan.

Spain’s new service will become the second low-cost train service in operation, taking advantage of a new system that looks to capitalize on a plan similar to the one implemented by low-cost air carriers, which has been hugely successful.

If Spain’s AVLO service becomes a roaring success like France’s low-cost, high-speed option has been, look for more and more countries with strong rail networks to implement this idea in the future.

Traveling by high-speed train is a unique and exciting experience, especially for travelers that come from places where train travel isn’t common.

Nothing quite beats the thrill of hurdling at warp speed through the countryside to reach your next destination.

Here are the three fastest high-speed trains on Earth, and where you can go to travel on them.

Harmony CRH 380A: China

The fastest train on Earth is this China Railways model that makes the journey between Shanghai and Nanjing. Reaching 236.1 miles per hour, you’ll be traveling at nearly a third of the speed of sound while on the ground! It makes the 187 mile journey take only an hour, with stops.

AGV Italo: Italy

The Italian high-speed train is the second-fastest on Earth. This model goes up to 223.6 miles per hour and is used on the high-frequency route between the major cities of Rome and Naples. You can visit the Coliseum in no time using this high-speed machine.

Talgo 350: Spain

The third-fastest train on Earth is operated by RENFE, Spain’s national rail company. It operates on the route between Madrid and Barcelona, linking the country’s two biggest cities at a top velocity of 217.4 miles per hour. While it takes over an hour to fly between these two cities, you can make the train trip in only two and a half hours!

When people think of trains, you might think of an old-time-y movie or book in a time where trains were more popular and used.

Well, trains are still very much in use, and if you’re traveling and have access to one you should definitely take it!

Train travel is amazing for so many reasons and it’s really worth ditching a plane for it.

Eco-Friendly

Especially if you’re going somewhere that is less than 300 miles away, trains are always going to be the more environmentally conscious choice.

Planes that fly 300 miles or less are especially volatile to the environment because of the high amount of fuel they need during takeoff and landing, and since it’s a short route for a plane, it’s really detrimental.

Even if you’re going more than 300 miles, trains still emit at least 50% less carbon than planes.

Scenery

Although you might catch a glimpse of a few mountains or landscapes while you’re flying, there’s nothing like being on the ground and watching the scenery pass by right next to you.

Especially if you’re going somewhere new, the experience of seeing new places right on the ground is a treat in and of itself.

https://www.instagram.com/p/ByLWKtWgI4F/

Baggage

With planes, you always have to worry about how much stuff you have and how much it all weighs. But, with trains, you can put your mind at ease and bring all the liquids you want!

Have you been looking to make a trip to Australia lately? While some travelers might stick to the big, famous cities of the country like Sydney and Brisbane, there is a lot to discover in this absolutely fascinating place.

One of the best ways to see what Australia has to offer is with the Great Southern Rail.

This train service is the most extensive and comprehensive train carrier in the large Oceanic country and offers a variety of routes that will help you see Australia’s outback up close and personal.

The flagship line of the service is a route that transverses the country from north to south, from Darwin to Adelaide. Beginning on Australia’s northern coast, this trip slices this country in half and takes you by landmarks such as Uluru.

Another fantastic route for those looking to discover the Australian countryside is the Indian Pacific line. This route begins in Sydney and takes you all the way along Australia’s southern portion, across the entire width of the country to the west coast city of Perth. As the name suggests, it literally takes you from one ocean to another!

The company offers excursions and stops for travelers in the various destinations that you pass through. In addition, there is an on-board dining service that serves the best in local and regional cuisine to travelers, as well as offering local Australian wine pairings.

I’m ready for a trip on the Great Southern Rail! Are you?

Are you?
