Anpanman

Anpanman is not as famous in the west as some other anime characters, but is big in Japan. ]]> Traveling by train used to be one of the fastest modes of transportation, next to traveling by ship. Luxurious trains would take passengers all throughout Europe, Southern Africa, and Asia. Train travel looks a bit less luxurious in most countries these days. But if you want to experience the echoes of the past then you should consider booking your next holiday aboard the Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express.

The Train

As soon as you step aboard the Art Deco train that is the Orient Express, you will feel as if you have stepped into the roaring 20s. Each train car has been perfectly preserved, with tasteful modern updates that will ‘wow’ every guest. The cabins are paneled with lacquered wood, and full-size beds covered in crisp white linens. During the day, the beds are tucked away and the cabins are turned into glamorous sitting rooms. 

The Dining Experience

No train experience would be complete without excellent cuisine, and that is what the dining car provides. Each season marks the start of a new menu, with entrees designed around seasonal ingredients. Expect to find lobster, truffle pasta, and many other excellent dishes. 

The Route

Another day at the train station people watching. We find it equally intriguing and exhausting watching locals sprint to their platforms with seconds to spare. As the train departs slowly from the station people leap into the open doors and push their way through. Some fit, others barely make it and those that latch on and grab their footing end up with half of their body hanging outside of the train. It is just an unbelievable site in which we do not understand…until we ended up being one of those people… ~ Yes, as the train was approaching all the letters and numbers for the platforms changed and we were immediately thrown into a panic. What we thought was the correct platform to be standing at was not and where we needed to be was at the complete opposite end of the train from where we were. Mike was already wearing his backpack, I was not. He scooped up my backpack and we sprinted down the platform. Security guards smiled and rooted for us to continue on. We got to our cart and people were already jam packed hanging outside the doors. The train horn blew. We were going to miss this train….We saw a small empty door on the cart next to ours. We jumped in and the train began to move. The man checked our tickets, saw we were in the wrong place, also saw we were out of breath and sweaty and said "It's okay. ]]> The United States of America is a region that has lagged behind the rest of the Western World when it comes to train travel in recent decades. While Amtrak was once a widely-used and profitable company that transported travelers throughout the country, it has now largely been replaced by flights and car travel.

One project in Texas is planning to put a small dent in this trend, however. Its name is the Texas Central Railway, and its plan is to develop a high-speed train connection between the major cities of Dallas and Houston that will reduce vehicle traffic between these two major cities.

This project would link the two cities in a matter of only an hour and a half, providing a great opportunity for tourists and residents of Texas alike to make a quick trip between Houston and Dallas, two places that are definitely worth visiting.

While construction has not yet begun on the line, which plans to operate at nearly 200 miles per hour, steps are currently being made for the plan’s execution. A bid from the Spanish rail company RENFE was recently accepted, meaning that the construction of this project should begin soon.

This will make the Texas Central Train the first high-speed rail line in the United States, providing a unique chance to travel in speed between these two cities and experience something that we could once only dream of.

Train travel looks a bit less luxurious in most countries these days. But if you want to experience the echoes of the past then you should consider booking your next holiday aboard the Venice-Simplon-Orient-Express.

The Train

As soon as you step aboard the Art Deco train that is the Orient Express, you will feel as if you have stepped into the roaring 20s. Each train car has been perfectly preserved, with tasteful modern updates that will ‘wow’ every guest. The cabins are paneled with lacquered wood, and full-size beds covered in crisp white linens. During the day, the beds are tucked away and the cabins are turned into glamorous sitting rooms. 

The Dining Experience

No train experience would be complete without excellent cuisine, and that is what the dining car provides. Each season marks the start of a new menu, with entrees designed around seasonal ingredients. Expect to find lobster, truffle pasta, and many other excellent dishes.

Another day at the train station people watching. We find it equally intriguing and exhausting watching locals sprint to their platforms with seconds to spare. As the train departs slowly from the station people leap into the open doors and push their way through. Some fit, others barely make it and those that latch on and grab their footing end up with half of their body hanging outside of the train. It is just an unbelievable site in which we do not understand…until we ended up being one of those people… ~ Yes, as the train was approaching all the letters and numbers for the platforms changed and we were immediately thrown into a panic. What we thought was the correct platform to be standing at was not and where we needed to be was at the complete opposite end of the train from where we were. Mike was already wearing his backpack, I was not. He scooped up my backpack and we sprinted down the platform. Security guards smiled and rooted for us to continue on. We got to our cart and people were already jam packed hanging outside the doors. The train horn blew. We were going to miss this train….We saw a small empty door on the cart next to ours. We jumped in and the train began to move. The man checked our tickets, saw we were in the wrong place, also saw we were out of breath and sweaty and said "It's okay. ]]> The United States of America is a region that has lagged behind the rest of the Western World when it comes to train travel in recent decades. While Amtrak was once a widely-used and profitable company that transported travelers throughout the country, it has now largely been replaced by flights and car travel.

One project in Texas is planning to put a small dent in this trend, however. Its name is the Texas Central Railway, and its plan is to develop a high-speed train connection between the major cities of Dallas and Houston that will reduce vehicle traffic between these two major cities.

This project would link the two cities in a matter of only an hour and a half, providing a great opportunity for tourists and residents of Texas alike to make a quick trip between Houston and Dallas, two places that are definitely worth visiting.

While construction has not yet begun on the line, which plans to operate at nearly 200 miles per hour, steps are currently being made for the plan’s execution. A bid from the Spanish rail company RENFE was recently accepted, meaning that the construction of this project should begin soon.

This will make the Texas Central Train the first high-speed rail line in the United States, providing a unique chance to travel in speed between these two cities and experience something that we could once only dream of.
