Should You Bring an Instrument While Traveling?

One of the questions that every traveler must ask themselves before embarking on a long trip is what they’re going to pack. This question may be a simple one to some, but to others, it can be nerve-wracking. There’s a limited amount of items you can take, and it can be hard to choose between various personal items—including instruments. For some, bringing an instrument is a great idea, but for others, it’s far from it. Here’s how to know if you should bring an instrument on your travels.

How Big is It?

The first thing you need to ask is how big your instrument is. If it’s a large acoustic guitar, it might be hard to lug it around everywhere. But if it’s a smaller, travel-sized guitar, or even a ukelele for that matter, it’ll be a lot easier to take it with you.

How Much Do You Intend to Play It?

We’re operating under the assumption that you’re not going to be gigging wherever you’re traveling. If you were, then bringing your instrument would be a no-brainer. However, even if you’re not gigging, you might still have the intention of frequently playing your instrument wherever you go. If so, that would be a great reason to bring it, but if you’re only going to play it once or twice, it’s probably not a good move.

How Valuable is It?

Finally, the last thing you must ask yourself is how valuable your instrument is. We’re talking market-wise, and also from your personal perspective. If your heart would be broken if something bad happened to it, then it might be a better idea to avoid taking it with you.
