Have you been to an all-inclusive resort? Between the gorgeous pools, picturesque beaches, water activities, variety of dining options, and unlimited beverages, all-inclusive resorts sound like paradise. But are they worth their high prices? Here’s what’s really included in these resorts as well as some hidden charges you may not know about, to help you decide if you should book an all-inclusive resort.

What’s an All-Inclusive Resort

Almost everything is included in all-inclusive resorts. This includes accommodations, three meals a day, beverages, and gratuities. Most of the time, these resorts are located in tropical and beach destinations like Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Jamaica. Sometimes they include non-motorized water sports like paddleboards, snorkeling, windsurf boards, and kayaks. In the evening there’s entertainment, casinos, and shopping.

Hidden Charges

While most things are covered in an all-inclusive resort, dining at the most premium restaurants might have an additional fee per person and if you want go to the spa or use facilities like sauna and jacuzzi, it will cost extra. Other additional charges include tours and cruises. Also, some alcohol like premium liquor brands or wines may cost you more.

Half Board vs. Semi-Inclusive

Half-board means breakfast, dinner, and non-alcoholic drinks and semi-inclusive might mean three meals a day, unlimited non-alcoholic drinks and limited alcoholic drinks.
