One of Africa’s Most Fascinating Cities is Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Ethiopia is one of the most history-rich countries on Earth. This East African country is where the first human supposedly lived and where some of the most impressive archeological finds in the world have been discovered.

At the heart of Ethiopia is its capital city, Addis Ababa. This African hub is a bustling city of nearly 3 million inhabitants that has a vast array of interesting things for visitors to discover and to do.

Because of a delay in Frankfurt I had a late arrival in Addis Abeba. On the airport in Addis the passportcontroll took real long time. A late sleep and a late wakeup made that my first sightseeing of Addis was not early morning. For my first day I had chosen some places to visit. For me the most Impressive was the "Red Terror Martyrs Memorial Museum". A place dedicated to estimated half a million murdered by the Derg. With the help of an Ethiopian guy I also managed ti find a place were I could buy a busticket to Bahir Dar for next Tuesday. After that I went for a luinch with the man and I had my first Ethiopian mail. Shiroo it was. Tasteful and spicy with Italian influences. The afternoon I visited some other places. Nu first impression of Addis was good. Friendly people and most of them warning me dit pickpockets. One of the highlights of any trip to Addis Ababa is the National Museum of Ethiopia. As mentioned before, Ethiopia’s fascinating history is one of the most attractive regions to visit. Here, visitors can discover fossils of ancient humans, including “Lucy,” as well as art that dates back to antiquity.

Visitors that are interested in beautiful views of the city can travel to various lookout points, including the Ethiopian Space Observatory in the Entoto Hills outside of the city. It’s a great place to watch the sunset and to see a panoramic view of the city.

Also, visitors to Addis Ababa must check out some of the city’s cuisine. Ethiopian coffee is some of the best in the world, and visitors to the city will find lots of places to sample the local product.

Ethiopian food is also a delicious treat, and you’ll find plenty of restaurants serving up injeera bread and other delicacies throughout Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa is a great destination for those looking for an interesting experience off of the beaten path.
