The Michelin Guide has been providing travelers with recommendations for the best eats around the world for more than a century. Now, it aims to do the same for accommodation.

The publication recently announced the introduction of Michelin Key, which will recognize the best hotels around the world that offer outstanding service to their guests. It will carry the same weight as the Michelin Star, which has long been the “stamp of approval” for the world’s best restaurants and food establishments.

“Just as the Michelin Star distinguishes those restaurants that are at the peak of their art, the Michelin Key recognizes the most exceptional hotels throughout the world,” said Gwendal Poullennec, Michelin Guide’s international director.

The Michelin Guide already features a list of 5,000 hotels and accommodations that they recommend. However, Michelin Key aims to select the best of them for travelers who are looking for an exceptional experience.

According to the press release, Michelin Guide inspectors are already inspecting the hotels to find those worthy of Michelin Key. They will consider a number of factors, including architecture, destination-worthy location, interior design, service, unique character, and value for money, before making the final decision.

The first Michelin Keys are expected to be rewarded at some point in 2024.
