Lighthouse Hunters Have to Check Out These Spots in Sydney, Australia

Lighthouses have a certain nostalgic quality that makes them extremely popular with tourists—especially once you take their secluded locations at the top of breathtaking coastal paths into the account. That’s certainly the case with some of Sydney’s most beautiful lighthouses, and these three really stood the test of time.

Hornby Lighthouse

Located on the tip of South Head, this red-and-white striped structure is one of the city’s most beloved heritage-listed lighthouses. It’s surrounded by many scenic spots that make it worth the trip, including the Gap Lookout and Lady Bay Beach.

Macquarie Lighthouse

On your way to Hornby Lighthouse, make sure to stop at this lovely spot, located just three kilometers away. This clean, white sandstone tower is the first and the longest surviving lighthouse in Australia, and it was first lit in 1883.

Barrenjoey Lighthouse

Even if you’re not a fan of lighthouse architecture, this tower is worth the visit for the surrounding nature alone. Located about an hour from central Sydney, it offers stellar views of the Hawkesbury River and Broken Bay that you can’t find anywhere else but here.
