In 2020, We’ll Travel More Sustainably

In 2019, people started regularly using the Swedish term flygskam, which means shaming others for flying. In 2020, even more people will accept this trend and try to travel on land whenever possible in order to lower carbon emissions. This and other new trends in the travel industry all suggest that we will travel more sustainably in 2020.

“We all need to fly less. When you sit down to plan your annual leave for next year, instead of thinking about several short overseas breaks that require flights, consider one longer holiday instead,” Head of Values at Responsible Travel Krissy Roe told Evening Standard. Responsible Travel is a U.K. travel company promoting authentic and sustainable holidays and more people are deciding to trust them with their holidays every year.

What can you do to make your travels more sustainable? You can opt to travel by trains and buses instead of planes and cars. Try taking one long trip instead of several short ones over the year. Or you can pick hotels based on their commitment to reusable energy. You can take refillable water bottles and multi-use cutlery, bags, straws, and other common things to avoid single-use plastic.

Do you think traveling sustainably is important?
